Over 150 members of the foreign press have come to #Taiwan to cover the presidential and legislative elections, which are set to take place this Saturday.
Ahead of the polls, Minister Joseph Wu held an international press conference for foreign media outlets today, with over 50 media organizations from countries including the #US, #Canada, the #UK, #Germany, #Sweden, #Italy, #Spain, #Australia, #Japan, #SouthKorea, #HongKong, #Singapore, #Thailand and the #Philippines in attendance.
Minister Wu made clear that each election that occurs in Taiwan reinforces its position as a beacon of democracy in Asia, stating, “Democracy will prevail. Taiwan will prevail.”
Members of the press asked a range of questions on the importance of the presidential ballot, Chinese interference, the attitude of the Taiwanese public towards the "One Country Two Systems" framework, Taiwan's response to the US-China trade war and recent developments in Taiwan-US and Taiwan-Japan relations. Minister JW made an earnest effort to respond to every question during the hour-long Q&A session and we think the journalists left with all the answers they were looking for!
